Science fiction is suspenseful and always makes you think the story could go both ways. Also science fiction makes people think about the possible things that could happen in the future.
Something that makes good science fiction is good characterization. The characters thoughts, actions and expressions have a big impact on the story. When the character makes you feel for them and you almost feel like your there makes the fiction seem realistic. For example in the short story, Darked They Were With Golden Eyes the main charecter really makes you feel like him like you might even be turning into an alien.
Another key item involved in good science fiction is the setting. When the background and the ambiance of the movie create the mood. This is something else that makes the movie seem believable. A movie with good setting and ambiance is star wars. Star wars has a lot of dark scenes especially when they show the enemies and things like the flying cars makes you think about what could be in the future.
The last main idea of a science fiction is the possible technology. The technology has to be something that could be possibly built and used in the future but still have a fictional background. In the movie Jumper they use the a special taser that send volts to the brain so they can't jump. This is something that could be real in the future but i fictional right now.
In conclusion, good science fiction is when the story is believable because it has good characterization ,it creates the mood and its based on possible technology. Science fiction makes people think about the future and hows things could really turn out.

Honestly, the introduction is a little too short to get me hooked into the essay. Despite the length, it's good. The essay's about what makes a good Sci-Fi, and I think you got the basic idea down.
Start adding sentences that will draw the reader towards your thesis a little more smoothly. Something you could do for that would be to quote a line from your favorite Sci-Fi movie and point out why it was good. But don't give too much away, save that for the body.

Also, don't use 'you' in your essays. Replace you with 'the audience' or 'the reader.'
Body:
1st Paragraph:
Good characterization is a very broad topic that can relate to anything. What needs work here is what you mean by that. Good characterization could go anywhere; happy characters, sad characters, angry characters...
What in your mind is a good character for a sci-fi movie? Are they curious, courageous, resourceful, and then ask, why are they like that?
If you took that character out of his/her movie/book, how could you define them as a character in a sci-fi?
Also, when getting titles for specific books/movies, have it as so:
For example in the short story "Dark They Were, and Golden-Eyed" by Ray Bradbury, detaildetaildetaildetail...
2nd Paragraph:
The paragraph doesn't really go into detail about what the setting does for the movie, but you give a very good example, Star Wars. Expand upon /why/ the setting makes the sci-fi.
Why does it make you think about the possible things that could happen in the future?
Like I mentioned in the 1st paragraph:
A movie with good setting and ambiance is George Lucas' "Star Wars."
I think you might have the definition of ambiance confused as you use it and the word 'mood' in the same sentence.

This last paragraph is fine. Just add more detail about what the movie Jumper is about. I mean, define what it means to "Jump" in that context.

Like the introduction, it's a little short. Just add details from your body to back it up, and it'll be fine.

Ideas: I like your ideas and I agree with you on what you think makes a good science fiction story. Characterization does play a big role in getting you to believe that the story could be true. I also agree that the setting must set the mood for the story or the reader may be confused. I understand what you are trying to say about the possible technology, but I think that you should include something about the possible consequences also.
ReplyDeleteOrganization: I like the way that you organized your paper. Your intro, body, and conclusion were easily spotted and your paper was easy to follow and understand.
Voice: I could kind of here your voice in this paper, but it sounds more like a research paper. Try adding more of your voice and feeling. Remember this is YOUR opinions.
Word Choice: Your word choice was good although the grammar in which the sentences were constructed were a little confusing. Try rephrasing your sentences to help them flow a little bit better.
